A dozen shows currently on Broadway were preceded by a movie with the same or similar name: They are either direct adaptations of the movies (Aladdin), or parodies of them (Titanique) or inspired by them (Harry Potter, Moulin Rouge), or share the same source material, such as a book. (Ragtime, The Outsiders.) At least three more are scheduled to open on Broadway in the 2026-2027 season. It’s as good a time as any for a poll: Pick what you consider the five best Broadway shows adapted from, or inspired by, a movie. Choose the five from the 37 below, listed alphabetically. If any of your favorites are not on the list, add them in the comments section below.
