Julie Benko, who went from standby to star of the first-ever Broadway revival of “Funny Girl,” sang “I’m The Greatest Star” at the Broadway in Bryant Park lunchtime concert August 18, 2022. She also spoke briefly about what the sudden stardom has been like. “It’s only been happening for a few weeks now… that people recognize me on the streets.”

Benko portrays Fanny Brice at every performance through September 4th, and then, when Lea Michele comes aboard on September 6, Benko will become the alternate, performing Fanny every Thursday.
