A Christmas Story, the 1983 movie in which Ralphie has to convince his parents, teachers, and Santa that a Red Ryder BB gun really is the perfect gift for the 1940’s, has been made into a stage musical that will be on Broadway during the holiday season.
At the last Broadway in Bryant Park free lunchtime concert of the summer, cast members sang songs from “A Christmas Story The Musical,” which will open at the Lunt-Fontanne November 19, 2012. The movie was based on stories by the humorist Jean Shepherd.
The creative team for the musical includes the director John Rando (“Urinetown”), the choreographer Warren Carlyle (“Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway”), with songs by two new to Broadway, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, composer-lyricist team of Dogfight the Musical, which was Off-Broadway.
John Bolton, veteran of half a dozen Broadway musicals, from Damn Yankees to Curtains.
I’ve thought for years that we need A Christmas Story musical. Can’t wait to see this one!
