Berry Gordy, founder of Motown records and producer and book writer of the planned Broadway musical “Motown,” is casting a wide net for an actor to play young versions of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder…and himself, Berry Gordy — open call auditions to be submitted via Youtube.
On the Motown Musical website, Gordy writes:
“What We Want
We are seeking a charismatic African-American young man to play multiple roles:
Young Michael Jackson
Little Stevie Wonder
Pre-teen Berry Gordy
Who You Are
You are ages 8–11, have a phenomenal high tenor singing voice, have rhythm and
can move and sound like Michael Jackson in his Jackson 5 days.”
Motown, a new musical with book by Berry Gordy himself, directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, and using songs from the Motown catalogue, is aiming for Broadway in Spring, 2013.
