Below are new production photographs of the 2021 cast of “Hamilton,” which is reopening on Broadway tonight, along with “Chicago,” “The Lion King” and “Wicked,” after eighteen months, the longest shutdown in Broadway history. They are the latest of the 45 shows that plan to open or reopen in the Broadway 2021-2022 season.
Among the newcomers in the Broadway cast of “Hamilton” are Jin Ha, as Aaron Burr. Ha was the first Asian-American to play King George in “Hamilton” (in the Chicago production), and made an impressive Broadway debut opposite Clive Owen in the short-lived 2017 revival of “M. Butterfly.”
There are other changes in the cast (full list below), including three new members of the ensemble, two of whom are making their Broadway debuts. Even some of the returning cast members are in effect newcomers: Krystal Joy Brown had only been performing as Eliza Hamilton for three months before the show was shut down. Tamar Greene started even later as George Washington in his Broadway debut, although he had previously played the part for 17 months in the Chicago production. But then there is Thayne Jasperson, who has been with the musical since it opened on Broadway on August 6, 2015.

The last time I reviewed Hamilton on Broadway was a year before it shut down: Hamilton on Broadway 2019: New Cast, New Clarity Some of the principal cast members I saw then resume their performances in 2021, including James Monroe Iglehart, Mandy Gonzalez and Euan Morton, all of whom I found exactly right in their roles.

In July 2020, the musical came to the masses (those with a Disney+ subscription anyway), with the original Broadway cast: Hamilton on Disney+ Review: The Third Moment That Feels Like a Movement
