The Tall Ship above (and in a video below) is The Esmeralda, from Chile. It took a couple of hours for any of the Tall Ships to start sailing by on the Hudson River this July 4th morning, America’s 250th birthday, but the lottery winners for a free spot on Little Island had plenty to applaud and cheer beforehand — certainly the breeze during this heat wave, but also the tugboats, battleships and jet planes in formation roaring above, some of which left smoke trails of red, white and blue, like the one in the short video below.
The Esmeralda is a steel-hulled, four-masted barquentine operated by the Chilean Navy that measures 371 feet (113 meters) in length, serves as a sail training vessel and is affectionately known as “La Dama Blanca” (The White Lady)
