Below are videos of the four shows that were presented at the “First Look” concert at the ninth annual BroadwayCon: “Suffs,” “The Outsiders,” “A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical” and “Guns & Powder.” BroadwayCon aficionados will observe that this “First Look” is different than past ones, the musical numbers usually from shows scheduled in the new season, sometimes being shown for the first time in public — such as “Hadestown” in 2019; Six the Musical in 2020, one of six new musicals then. This year, half the shows have already opened – and won Tonys. Another is not yet scheduled for Broadway. Only “A Wonderful World” is set to open later this season.
A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical is scheduled to open at Studio 54 in November, starring James Monroe Iglehart, who here sings the title song
Daryl Tofa as Two-Bit, Jason Schmidt as Sodapop Curtis and the rest of the cast portraying the Greasers perform the song “Hoods Turned Heroes” from the 2024 Tony-winning best musical “The Outsiders”
The cast of “Suffs” sing “Great American Bitch.” The performers are: Kim Blanck as Ruza, Ally Bonino as Lucy, Hannah Cruz as Inez, Nadia Dandashi as Doris, and Shaina Taub (the show’s librettist, lyricist and composer) as Alice Paul.
Liisi LaFontaine performs “Freedom” from a “Broadway-bound” musical entitled “Gun & Powder” at BroadwayCon’s First Look concert, July 26, 2024. The show is inspired by the true story of Mary and Martha Clarke, African American twin sisters in 1893 Texas who went on a Wild West adventure, transforming from farm girls to outlaws to legends.
