Heidi Schreck’s “What The Constitution Means To Me” is the most produced play in America this season, according to American Theatre Magazine’s latest survey, and Lynn Nottage is the most produced playwright.
Below are the lists of the top 12 most produced plays, with links (when I have them) to my reviews of the recent Broadway or Off-Broadway productions, as well as the top 24 most produced playwrights, with the number of productions in parentheses.
The survey is of a total of 1,560 full shows (productions with runs of at least a week) from the 558 non-profit theaters that are members of the Theater Communication Group plus Broadway, and doesn’t count productions by Shakespeare or of “A Christmas Carol,” since these are far and away the most popular titles in the U.S. every year.
