Watch George Salazar Sing from New Joe Iconis Musical

George Salazar, who sang the show-stopper “Michael in the Bathroom” in “Be More Chill” on Broadway, was one of more than two dozen performers to join the Tony-nominated composer of “Be More Chill,” Joe Iconis, in his cabaret show earlier this month at 54 Below. All the performers seemed to be delivering 11 o’clock numbers, but Salazar was the only one to sing his from Iconis’s new musical, “The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical,” about the self-declared gonzo journalist whose best-known book was “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” The musical is scheduled to run for a month starting at the end of August at La Jolla Playhouse in California, after more than ten years of workshops and readings.

Watch Salazar sing “Song of the Brown Buffalo” from the new show, in the character of Oscar “Zeta” Acosta Fierro, an attorney and author of “Autobiography of a Brown Buffalo” who was a pal of Thompson’s and features prominently in his Las Vegas book. Below that, Salazar singing “Michael in the Bathroom” four years ago.
