Watch Ben Platt, Micaela Diamond Sing from Parade at the White House

While “Parade” composer Jason Robert Brown played the piano, Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond sang a couple of songs from the musical currently on Broadway inspired by the 1915 lynching in Georgia of the Jewish American Leo Frank. The brief concert is in the video below near the start of the White House celebration today of Jewish American Heritage Month. First Lady Jill Biden introduces the performers. The video concludes with speeches by Second Gentleman (and Jewish American) Douglas Emhoff and by President Joe Biden about the significance of the Jewish contribution to American history and the fight against antisemitism.

The video begins at around the 31 minute mark; the performance at around 36. A technical glitch cuts the transmission off at around the 45 minute mark after the first two songs, “This Is Not Over Yet” and “All The Wasted Time”

Earlier today, “Parade” won the 2023 Outer Critics Circle Awards for outstanding revival of a musical, and outstanding director of a musical.

  1. What shamefully poor video production this is. How can they chop off the final part of the second song where Ben nails “at all”? And chopping off the start of his remarks. And no mention of the composer, who happened to be on the stage (maybe that wasn’t said, but I can’t imagine that there wasn’t applause, which was also cut.
