Only one Broadway cast recording has been nominated for Best Musical Theater Album in  the 64th Grammy Awards, which will take place on April 3, 2022. This makes sense, given how few new musicals opened in New York in 2021 because of the pandemic. More remarkable is that some of these nominated musical theater albums are not based on actual musicals that have been performed on any stage anywhere.
