Shuffle Along, The Humans Win 2016 New York Drama Critics Circle Awards

The New York Drama Critics’ Circle has named Stephen Karam’s The Humans as 2016 Best Play and George C. Wolfe’s Shuffle Along as Best Musical.

New York Drama Critics’ Circle Special Citations went to Oskar Eustis, the artistic director of the Public Actor, veteran actress Lois Smith, director Ivo van Hove and to van Hove’s frequent collaborator, scenic designer Jan Versweyveld.

The award was created in response to the Pulitzer in 1935, and is decided by the 23 mainstream critics who make up the organization. Last year’s awards were given to “Hamilton” for best musical and “Between Riverside and Crazy” for best play.
