Unbroken Circle Ticket Giveaway Contest

Unbroken Circle
Lori Hammel and James Wesley in “Unbroken Circle”

Update: The winner of the random drawing is Brad Widener.

Ticket Giveaway: Win two tickets to see “Unbroken Circle”  a new play by James Wesley, described as a “comedic Southern gothic tale” that explores a Texan family’s dark secrets as they return home for the patriarch’s funeral. Critics compared it to “August: Osage County.” The seven-member cast features Anika Larsen (Xanadu, Avenue Q), the playwright Wesley himself and his real-life daughter Juli Wesley, as well as Eve Plumb, best-known as the put-upon middle daughter of “The Brady Bunch.”

It is produced by Seth Rudetsky (yes, that Seth Rudetsky) and Mary J. Davis

“Unbroken Circle” is being performed at St. Luke’s Theatre (308 West 46th Street.)

To enter the contest, answer this question:

Which is your favorite stage show about a family, and why?

1. Please put your answer in the comments at the bottom of this blog post, because the winner will be chosen through Random.org based on the order of your reply, not its content.

But you must answer the question, complete with an explanation of your choice, or your entry will not be approved for submission.

2. Please include in your answer your Twitter name and follow my Twitter feed at @NewYorkTheater so that I can send you a direct message. (If you don’t have a Twitter name, create one. It’s free.)

3. This contest ends Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at midnight Eastern Time, and I will make the drawing no later than noon the next day. You must respond to my direct message on Twitter within 24 hours or I will choose another winner.

You must also be able to attend one of the eligible performances. The voucher is good for two tickets for performances until August 18th, 2013. Some restrictions may apply.

Only one submission per contestant please. (You will be disqualified if you submit more than once, so please make sure you have all the requirements — such as your Twitter name — before submitting. All submissions have to be approved, so you won’t necessarily see your entry right away. Please be patient.)

  1. Next to normal! The family is so dysfunctional but you learn to love them! @kyledmoralea

  2. The description of “Unbroken Circle” really knocked the wind out of my answer, but AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY. Tragedy. Humor. Tragedy again. Humor again. And pills. Lots of pills. I think it’s the most cutting edge serio-comedy since WOOLF. It truly changed the way I watch and would want to write theater. (@ArtWineWhimsy)

  3. Next to Normal! It’s a terrific story about a grieving family that is also struggling to cope with the effects of mental illness. It’s the first show I saw on Broadway and one of the shows that made me truly fall in love with theatre.

  4. Shenandoah. The story of the indominable Anderson family as they struggle with their anti war stance — during the Civil War. Soaring, heart-wrenching music plus fully drawn characters make this a favorite for actors and singers alike.

  5. My favorite stage play about a family is All My Sons by Arthur Miller. The story of a family that unravels and tries to cope as its patriarch crumbles under the weight of his questionable actions during wartime? Not a play that’s going to fill your day with sunshine and roses but it’s powerful nonetheless.

My twitter handle is the same as my email in the form below and I follow you on this platform. Thank you kindly for the chance.

  6. “Next to Normal” is my favorite stage show about a family. It’s dramatic, emotional, and unique with an engaging story and score. @mymusicboxes

  7. “You Can’t Take it With You”…they are completely nutty, but they are love and accept each other. Those wacky Sycamores and co. never wish anything bad on anyone, they do what makes them happy. Simple as that. @bbwithpickles

  8. Next to Normal is my favorite stage family. It is so real, dramatic, and emotional. The show centers around this quirky and unbalanced family. It takes you on a ride the whole show, from happiness to grieving and loss, and to finally realizing the need to move on and finding light at the end of a dark road.

  9. My TWitter name is TCMNo.1 and my favorite theatre family is the one in Long Day’s Journey into Night. What a nightmare! A drug addict , cheapness, alcohol, loneliness – it’s got it. What a miserable bunche
