There seemed to be an unusually abundant display of abdominal muscle on Broadway during the season just ended, almost as if there was an award for Broadway’s Best Abs. So let’s have one. Vote below.
We regret the snubbing of Jonny Orsini in “The Nance” and Cory Michael Smith in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” as Broadway’s Best Abs nominees, but we could find no photographs of their shirtless moments on stage (which were also both pants-less, but that’s a different contest.)
Update: Please vote responsibly, not just for the superficial qualities of the abs but for the way the performing artist employs them as one of the instruments at his disposal in the service of the role.
second update, June 9: New York Times chief drama critic Ben Brantley writes about theater abs on the front page of the Arts and Leisure section today.
