Kinky Boots Ticket Giveaway Contest

KinkyBootsStarkSandsBillyPorter

Update February 19: The contest is closed. Check out Adele, Rufus Wainwright and Lady Gaga on Broadway to find out who won the drawing at Random.org, but also to see some of your more interesting answers.

Ticket Giveaway: Win two tickets to see “Kinky Boots,” the Broadway musical based on the 2005 film that tells the true story of a man who saves his family’s shoe factory by partnering with the fabulous female-impersonating entertainer Lola to manufacture some sturdy stilettos. The songs are written by Cyndi Lauper, best-known for “Time After Time” and “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” making her Broadway songwriting debut, and the libretto is by Harvey Fierstein (Newsies, Torch Song Trilogy, etc.). The cast of 33 includes Stark Sands (American Idiot) and Billy Porter (Grease). It is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, his 19th Broadway show.KinkyBootsposter

“Kinky Boots” begins performances on March 3, 2013, and opens on April 4th at Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theater.

To enter the contest, answer this question:

What singer/songwriter would you like to see writing a show for Broadway, and/or performing in one?

Optional second question:

What would the show be about?

Three requirements to win the tickets:

1. Please put your answer in the comments at the bottom of this blog post, because the winner will be chosen through Random.org based on the order of your reply, not its content.

KinkyBoots3But you must answer the (first) question, or your entry will not be approved for submission.

2. Please include in your answer your Twitter name and follow my Twitter feed at @NewYorkTheater so that I can send you a direct message. (If you don’t have a Twitter name, create one. It’s free.)

3. This contest ends Monday, February 18, 2013 at midnight Eastern Time, and I will make the drawing no later than noon the next day. You must respond to my direct message on Twitter within 24 hours or I will choose another winner.

(The tickets are for a performance during the preview period, between March 3 and April 3, 2013. You have to be in New York City and able to attend one of the designated performances.)

Update: This seems kind of obvious, but several people tried to submit “Cyndi Lauper.” She’s doing a Broadway musical — “Kinky Boots” — and so is not an acceptable submission. Pick somebody else.

Another Update: The last several of you have been submitting an answer without telling me your Twitter name. Even if your answer appears in the Comments section, you will not be eligible for the drawing.

I would love to see Grace Jones write and perform in a show on Broadway. It could be called Nightclubbing and all about her club days in NYC. Recreate moments like when Keith Haring painted her body in white tribal body paint for her performance at Paradise Garage in 1985!

  4. Regina Zanghi (aka blondeseashell) says:

@blondeseashell I would love to see Carly Simon write a play and maybe even star in it on Broadway about her life, music and loves. With the big finale being the reveal of who “You’re So Vain,” was really written about! 😉

    Ramin Karimloo @diva2000ck

  6. This might sound odd, but I think the music of Stevie Nicks + Fleetwood Mac would be awesome for a Broadway show. No idea what it would be about or any kind of premise, but I think their harmonies and music in general are really strong… it would be cool to hear them done professionally.

I would love to see my favorite group The Indigo Girls do music for a show. Their songs are already beautiful stories from their life.

I would love to see Lady Gaga write music for a musical. It would be about a gay guy struggling to overcome his drug addiction while fighting his way to fame. Twitter: @bwwidener878

  9. I know I’m not being original was this, but Adele. The girl teaches you how to feel emotion. It would be cool if she took a children’s book and adapted it with her soulful 60’s beats. I picture the design being very illustrative in shades of black, white, and blue.

    Rufus Wainwright!
