Ernest Borgnine, 1917 – 2012

Ernest Borgnine, best-known for the title role of Oscar-winning 1955 film “Marty,” for the 1960’s TV show ‘McHale’s Navy,” and for being married to Ethel Merman for 32 days, reportedly has died, at age 95.

Although he wasn’t as much of a Broadway veteran as his wife,  he did appear 1952-53 with Helen Hayes in “Mrs. McThing.” According to Variety, Borgnine made his Broadway debut in 1949 in Mary Chase’s “Harvey,” currently in revival.
