Ticket Giveaway: The Realistic Joneses with Toni Collette, Michael C. Hall, Tracy Letts and Marisa Tomei

REalisticJoneseslogo copyWin two tickets to see The Realistic Joneses, by Will Eno, which the New York Times called “a tender, funny terrific new play with the Spring’s most enticing cast” — Toni Collette, Michael C. Hall, Tracy Letts and Marisa Tomei. The four portray neighboring couples in the suburbs, both named Jones. The play, directed by Sam Gold (Fun Home), begins performances on March 13 with an April 6 opening night at the Lyceum Theater.
RealisticJoneseslogoThe winner of this contest will receive two tickets to the show’s invited dress rehearsal on Wednesday, March 12 at 8pm. A typically “industry insider” event, this means you will have an opportunity to see this show before anybody else.
All four performers are returning to Broadway after successful screen careers, Michael C. Hall (Dexter) after 16 years, Toni Collette (Hostages, The Sixth Sense) after 14 years, Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny) after six years, and Tracy Letts (playwright of August: Osage County, performer in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf), after just a year.
So the question is:
Who would you like to see returning to Broadway, and why? (And, if you want to add to your answer: In what?)

1. Please put your answer in the comments at the bottom of this blog post, because the winner will be chosen through Random.org based on the order of your reply, not its content.

But you must answer the question, complete with explanation, or your entry will not be approved for submission.

2. Please include in your answer your Twitter name and follow my Twitter feed at @NewYorkTheater so that I can send you a direct message. (If you don’t have a Twitter name, create one. It’s free.)
3. This contest ends Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at midnight Eastern Time, and I will make the drawing no later than noon the next day. You must respond to my direct message on Twitter within 24 hours or I will choose another winner.

(All submissions have to be approved, so you won’t necessarily see your entry right away: Please be patient, and don’t submit more than once.)

  1. I would love to see Allison Janney return to Broadway after her fantastic turn in the otherwise dreary “9 to 5”. She is a fantastic actress with a knack for both comedy and drama and it was thrilling to watch her in big musical numbers like “One of the Boys”, so I’d love to see her return in another musical.

  2. I’d love to see Dustin Hoffman return to Broadway. I wasn’t in New York when he was in “Death of a Salesman.” The last time I saw him onstage was a play called “Jimmy Shine” in 1969, so I’m more than anxious to see him live, again.
    Thanks for the giveaway. What an amazing cast!

  3. I would love to see Meryl Streep return to Broadway.

    It has been a LONG 37 years since she’s done a show and it’s time for her EGOT. She has an extensive theatre background, graduating from Yale School of Drama, multiple productions in the New York Shakespeare Festival and then 5 Broadway shows before 1977.

    It’s definitely time for one of our best screen actors of all time to grace the Great White Way again.

  4. I would love to see Jennifer Carpenter (who also starred in Dexter with Michael C. Hall as Deb) come back to her roots in theatre and do a Broadway show. She was previously on Broadway in The Crucible in 2002 with Laura Linney. She played Mary Warren and understudied Abigail Williams (which I’m sure was unreal). Jennifer is also a graduate of Juilliard’s prestigious drama school. I would love to see her do something classic like Ibsen or conversely, something super contemporary like Steph in Labute’s reasons to be pretty.

  5. Mary Louise Parker, in a worthwhile vehicle. I have a lot of respect for her as an actress, both onstage and on the screen, but her latest outings have been headscratchers.

    @jufu_0

  6. @mnally16 Meryl Streep! Because she’s Meryl Streep, duh. I know it’s been a long time since she’s graced Broadway, but she’s positively peerless, and I would love to see her back on stage in pretty much anything.

  7. I would like to see John Gallagher, Jr., return to Broadway (or off-Broadway… any theatre will do!). The last time he was on stage was in 2011’s Jerusalem and it’s just been too long. He’s an incredible actor, always present on stage, making him so fascinating to watch. He should return to the stage in some new work by Annie Baker. I think they’d pair well. -@reviewingdrama

  8. I would have answered Toni Collette, because she was amazing in The Wild Party. But, since she’s returning this April (yay!) I would love to see Meryl Streep. Even though a lot of people have been saying that, I think it would be absolutely amazing to see her make a comback!

  9. I’d love to see Manoel Felciano back on Broadway. He was fantastic in Sweeney Todd and it would be great to see more of him!

  10. I can second the suggestions you’ve already received, and it’s gratifying to see Glenn Close, Hugh Jackman, and Bradley Cooper have announced forthcoming projects. I hope Tom Hanks comes back–he did a good job and brought in the audience for Lucky Guy, @mlottjr

  11. I would love to to see Christopher Pine return to Broadway to reprise his role in Lieutenant of Inishmore. Saw him as Padric in Los Angeles and have never been so excited before AND after a performance.

    @barahsedo

  12. John Gallagher Jr! Just saw him do a sow at Rockwoodand was reminded of how multi talented he is. I’d love to see him do another edgy Duncan Sheik show! @pegc4

  13. I would like to see Raul Esparza because if his versatility on stage. He dances, he acts, he sings. Just love to see him perform, and he is sexy too 😉

  14. Jessica Lange as Violet Weston in AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, because she basically played that character in AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, and she would rip. it. a. part. Better than Meryl did. (Yes, I’m going there.) @criticalconfab

  15. I would love to see Kristen Chenoweth back in Wicked because I have not seen it yet and after seeing her in other roles I have concluded that she is amazing, talented, and has a couple powerful lungs in her. @heyconaynay

  16. Sara Ramirez has been needed back on a Broadway stage since the minute she left it. It’s so hard to decide what she’d should come back with (there are so many options!) but it’s a must in my book! @pli1018

  17. I’d love to see Jeremy Jordan return to broadway. It hasn’t been that long, but with his successful film career just getting started I fear he won’t be coming back any time soon :(. I’d love to see him in something new, but if it had to be a revival, it’d be great to see him as Enjolras in Les Miserables!
    @wackeal

  18. Robert DeNiro. Was lucky to catch him and Burt Young and Ralph Macchio in “Cuba and HIs Teddy Bear” (when a patron apparently had a heart attack during the show and I was impressed how Macchio, alone on stage, just froze in position until the EMT’s took the man and his wife away. But his recent penchant for comedy, I think DeNiro would make a good irascible Grandpa Vanderhoff in a revivial of “You Can’t Take It With You,” which would accommodate some scenery munching. I’m on Twitter @Queerbec

  19. I would love to see Jennifer carpenter and michael c hall together on stage because they were so great in dexter. @jenbchase

  20. Michael Ceveris in a new work (looking at you, “Fun Home”) where he actually gets to star (“Evita” just didn’t cut it for me). @ mduaime

  21. I would love to see Mery Streep. Just to see her perform makes me so happy and inspired! She´s good in anything.

  22. I would love for Megan Hilty to return to Broadway. I’ve seen her in concert and she is fantastic live. I’d love the opportunity to see her in a Broadway product! @RachHadley

  23. Meryl Streep because she’s a brilliant actress and I want the chance to see her do live theater. @mymusicboxes

  24. Martin Short, because he is phenominal, and after his book comes out he’ll be back in people’s minds.

  25. I would love to see Sara Ramirez come back to Broadway. I would have given her the Tony just listen to the Spamalot soundtrack. I could only imagine what it was like to see her live. I’ve been praying for Grey’s Anatomy to finally end so she’ll come back! @bridg4491

  26. I would love to see Eddie Redmayne in Red, or perhaps have him reprise his role as Richard II (which he did at the Donmar in 2011-2012). I think he is severely underrated as an actor, and he is incredibly talented. I’d also love to see James Corden in One Man, Two Guvnors because I missed it and heard his performance was absolutely stellar. Twitter: @alinagutierrez

  27. I would love to see Meryl Streep back on stage. I have never had the chance to see her in a production but I know whatever she is cast in, she would be brilliant. @nyshowsmandy

  28. Bernadette Peters, please and thank you. I’ve yet to see her on stage, and I’ve been a fan since INTO THE WOODS taught me my fairy tales from the two VHSes of the PBS airing.

    I’m @stoolboom

  29. Barbra Streisand is who I would like to see on Broadway! She is one of my favorite singers and actress!
    Lourdes @PiscesMist

  30. @bflood28 I would love to see Stephanie mills come back to Broadway. I think the closest she’s come was Children of Eden at Papermill? She’s so incredible, I would love to see herback on Broadway.

  31. I’d like to see Alison Fraser back on Broadway. I’ve been a fan of hers since The Secret Garden, and I’d love to see more of her!
    @Clairvoyant94

  32. I’d love to see John Gallagher Jr back on Broadway. I loved him as Johnny in American Idiot. He’s amazing live and I love his voice. Wish I could have seen him as Moritz in Spring Awakening. Maybe he can reprise the role? @LeeatShnaider
