Strap on your ruby slippers and join the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion, Dorothy and her little dog Toto, too, for this adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz". Everyone loves the classic story of the girl who wakes up in a strange land filled with witches and wizards, munchkins and monkeys -- and befriends a cowardly lion, a tin man without a heart and a scarecrow with no brain in her quest to find her way back home. Journey down the yellow brick road through the land of Oz to meet the Wizard while humming along to memorable songs from the Oscar-winning film, including "Over the Rainbow," "We're Off to See the Wizard" and "If I Only Had a Brain." The whole family will enjoy this zippy, one-hour version now playing at the Harlem Repertory Theatre in New York. [less-]

The first Broadway play written by an African-American woman, "A Raisin in the Sun" is a masterpiece that "The New York Times" credits with changing American theater forever. First produced in 1959 and adapted two years later into a now-classic film starring Sidney Poitier, "A Raisin in the Sun" is as powerful today as it was 50 years ago. Now Harlem Repertory Theatre presents the limited return of this incredible story to their stage -- a story that follows the Youngers, an African-American family attempting to move from a crowded two-bedroom apartment into a "white" neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. But a new house is just one of the Youngers' many dreams. Three generations each yearn for different versions of a better life -- whether it's a business, or a spouse, or the right to live with long-denied dignity. [less-]

After dazzling audiences the world over — and winning the 2013 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical — an exciting new staging of "Pippin" comes to the Tato Laviera Theatre at Harlem Repertory in New York City. This updated version of the Broadway classic infuses the production with a modern lens, while still rocking the music and lyrics of Stephen Schwartz, the award-winning composer of "Wicked" and "Godspell". With classic songs like "Corner of the Sky," "No Time at All," "Magic to Do" and "Extraordinary," and recreated versions of Bob Fosse's original choreography, this sexy and sophisticated version of "Pippin" tells the story of the son of Charlemagne, leader of the Holy Roman Empire, who goes on a death-defying journey to find meaning in life. He encounters love, sex, war and politics, and must ultimately choose between a life that's ordinary or a flash of singular glory. [less-]

What if popularity came in a pill? Would you take it? In "Be More Chill", achieving the “perfect life” is possible thanks to mysterious new technology -- but it comes at a cost that’s not as easy to swallow. "Rolling Stone" calls it a "wow of a musical" with an "irresistible score." Thrillingly exciting and comically subversive, this new musical takes on the competing voices in our heads, and ultimately proves there’s never been a better time in history to be yourself. Based on the novel by Ned Vizzini, "Be More Chill" brings the cool factor to New York's Lyceum Theatre. [less-]

How has the climate changed in the past? How is it changing now? How do we know? And what kind of a future do we want to create? Described as "Theatre that can change the world," this play addresses climate change through riveting personal and scientific accounts. Chris Rapley and Duncan Macmillan ("1984") bring to life the horrors of CO2 emissions and what will happen to future generations if we do not act responsibly with regards to our planet. Originally performed at the National Theater in London in 2015 and now making its debut in the United States. A portion of proceeds from this play will be donated to 350.org, an organization dedicated to reversing climate change. This production will be put on along with Episcopal Actor's Guild Open Stage Grant. All proceeds will be split between Ripple Effect Artists and the charitable programs of the Episcopal Actors' Guild (EAG). EAG (est. 1923) is a charitable organization dedicated to helping NYC's professional performing artists “of all faiths, and none” who are experiencing financial crisis. [less-]
