The best movie of a musical I’ve seen is the filmed version of the final performance of Rent on Broadway. The performances were wonderful and I finally got to see the show the way it was written (as opposed to the movie version).

CHICAGO – despite a lumbering tap dance by Richard Gere, this star-studded adaptation of the Bdwy musical never fails to entertain. PLUS I went to school with one of the Merry Murderesses and she “killed” it during her portion of “He Had It Comin.” Great movies are visual and this one has visuals galore and great musicals have unforgettable songs and CHICAGO has a host of them.

My favorite movie musical would have to be Funny Girl. The music, the costumes. And, of course, Barbra. And as much as I wish Cornet Man had been performed in it I can still sit and watch it over and over again (which I’ve done before) and admire it to no end.

My favorite movie of a musical is Little Shop of Horrors, which has great performances, incredible puppet work and, of course, those great songs. It is a terrific adaptation of a great show.

The worst movie adaptation of a musical is A CHORUS LINE. All the magic was lost in the transition from stage to screen. The movie is totally flat & feels like they were just going after a very 80’s Fame cash-grab.

The best movie of a musical I’ve seen would have to be Les Miserables. I think they did a great job adapting it from stage to screen, with some great performances by Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman.

I think the best movie musical I’ve ever seen must be West Side Story. In addition to one of the best combinations of music, lyrics and book in the musical itself, the choreography by Jerome Robbins and the star power of Rita Moreno, Richard Beymer, Natalie Wood worked like magic.

The best movie musical would have to be Fiddler On the Roof. Awesome show, great music. The film was an excellent adaptation. Well shot.
